High Point Artists Create and Sell Art for Charity

I would like to honor my amazing students who showed their truest sense of holiday spirit by creating and selling original art with the intent to raise funds for the charities they selected. At High Point's first annual Holiday Bazaar on December 8th and 9th, we filled a table with beautiful, handmade crafts and offered henna tattoos for purchase. All proceeds went to The Wounded Warrior Project, O.S.C.A.R. Animal Rescue, and our future High Point Mindfulness Garden Project. Thank you, students, for having such HUGE hearts during such a busy time of year, and raising over $500!

The Power of Art Education

All children, not only those with specific artistic talent, benefit from an education in the arts. The arts are, in themselves, a vital part of a comprehensive education. Current research suggests that young people who participate in the arts acquire skills that help them in decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. The arts also help motivate children to learn and achieve stronger results in core academic subjects. For some children, the arts even provide the impetus to stay in school and find their way to contribute to society. Creative thinking and art education challenge students to utilize the right-hemisphere of the brain more often, resulting in more holistic thinking and intuitive learning.
